imagine you’re frolicking in a field, prancing through long grass, singing “falalalala~”, occasionally picking a flower. etc, etc. but a guy in the same field is watching you, about 20 paces away. he lowers his opera glasses (which he was using to watch you) and starts clutching his head and screaming with blind rage because of how much you’re pissing him off. that’s what it’s like to be on the internet.

ok lyrically folklore is so intricate and clever, just jam packed with vivid imagery and excellent metaphors and wordplay. but, for me, the lyrics that pack the biggest punches for me are the small and simple phrases:

“But I knew you” … “I gave so many signs” … “For me, it was enough”…”You made her like that”… “I know I miss you”… “but it would have been fun”… “at least I’m trying”…

like the tension builds as she spins these beautiful phrases to tell the story, and then she gets to these moments where its just too heavy and it feels like she just throws her hands up and distills the whole emotion of the song into just a few direct words. these are the lyrics that echo in my mind all day when i’m not actively listening to the album.
